Directions OPTION
1 - From Malaga Airport, the most obvious route to Acequias or Pinos
del Valle would appear to be to head east on the N340 until you reach
Motril, then head up the N323, taking the first sign for Durcal and
turning right at the 'T' junction towards Niguelas. You would then
drive about a mile from here before crossing the Rio Torrente and
heading up the hill into Acequias. Park near the church and walk
through the large gates opposite into the Tia Maria Community with its
pool to the right and private gardens.
However...
this route is OK if it is day-time and you want lunch on a beach etc.,
but it will almost certainly take longer than the longer route
below. OPTION
2 - On leaving Malaga Airport head east towards Malaga - after 2
miles take the road north signed Archidona, Granada and follow signs for
Granada all the way to Santa Fe, a district just outside Granada.
Head south on the road signed Sierra Nevada. This is the N323 -
you will pass Padul after about 15 minutes. Take the second
motorway exit
for Durcal then follow directions as above from the 'T' junction.
OPTION 3 -
As
an alternative, flights to Madrid are available all year round and are
competitively priced. The journey takes four hours by car, and is
dual carriageway all the way. It passes by Aranjuez, then La
Mancha (Don Quixote country and the wine-growing region of Valdepeñas)
before reaching the Sierra Morena and the spectacular gorge of Despeñaperros.
Other possible flight destinations include Jerez, Seville and
Murcia, all around three hours away.
