links

Here are a few useful links that might help you find what you need to know about the area.

The official Spanish tourist website with all the essential information about any trip to Spain.

A well structured site with excellent links and information about the region.  Loads of up-to-date articles on cultural events, places of interest and local amenities.

A good starting point for cheap flights, easily bookable on-line.  The Liverpool-Malaga flight is usually about 2½ hours, as is the Luton one.

Alternatively, now operating out of the thriving metropolis of Leeds/Bradford is Jet2.com.  They sell low cost flights offering great value - it says it on the ad...

No complaints from us though, as we've already snapped up some good deals.

Flying out of the East Midlands we've also had good service from these providers.  A £50 return springs to mind.  All worth exploring.

An up-to-the-minute indicator of exchange rates and other financial facts and figures.

Sur is an English language newspaper widely available in Southern Spain.  This site is updated regularly and is a very useful source of information.

An alternative site with local news and events in Granada.

A very useful site with stacks of information on Sol y Nieve and everything ski-related in the area.  Up-to-date snow reports, live web cam etc.

Water - possibly the most important liquid you can buy when in the Valle de Lecrin.  The website is quite informative - did you know they produce Lanjaron water for babies?  The village of Lanjaron is now only a 15 minute drive from Acequias, with plenty to do and see.  You can even walk it in 4 hours!  Don't forget the water...

Probably not the best cerveza in Spain but undoubtedly the most well known.  Others like Cruzcampo and Mahou have their supporters and research into their finer qualities is ongoing...

Probably the best value Rioja available at the moment.  The Reserva is absolutely brilliant - full of rich fruit, top of vanilla and great finish - and can be found for truly bargain prices.  We recently paid 10 Euros in restaurant!

At Renfe's clear website - an English version too! -  you can check timetables and organise  tickets for their excellent Andalucian express services from Granada to Sevilla, Cordoba, Malaga and Ronda.

For absolutely everything from car tyres to pickled snails, and from Heinz beans to live lobsters.  This is a fantastic hypermarket.  Exit at Junction 131on the Granada ring-road - it's only 25 minutes from Acequias - and follow the signs for the Centro Commercial.

When you need to know what's happening in Spain - El Pais is one of the country's leading newspapers.  The website is highly recommended, although there is no English version.  However, see below for a solution.

Another fine beer - this one brewed in Granada.  Their especial, weighing in at 5.3%, is particularly impressive, as is the Reserva 1925.  But don't take our word for it - take the next flight out and sample them for yourself...

This is a great resource if you need a rough and ready translation of a section of Spanish text.  It can throw up a few weird interpretations but will give you the gist to work around.  Easy to use and very fast - just cut-and-paste your text, select the required language (it's not just English-Spanish) and click.
